Eating fresh fruit and vegetables can improve the health and appearance of your skin:

We all know fruit and vegetables are essential for the maintenance of healthy skin. They are packed with loads of nutrients and potent antioxidants, which guard against free radicals (minute molecules responsible for aging, tissue damage, and possibly some diseases).

If you think about fruit and vegetables as being a rainbow then by including a wide variety of colours in your diet, the more of these essential vitamins and minerals you will consume.

Oranges and Yellows

Carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, yellow capsicum, oranges, mangoes and apricots.

This group provides loads of beta-carotene, a resilient free-radical fighter, as well as Vitamin C which promotes and protects collagen. Collagen provides support and elasticity to your skin, delaying the onset of wrinkles!

Reds

Tomatoes, red chillies, pink grapefruit, watermelon, red capsicum, red onions, and strawberries.

Much of the red group contains Lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. Studies indicate it may well help protect your skin from damaging rays of the sun. High consumption of Lycopene is well known for combating heart disease and cancer.  Vitamin C is also abundant in the red group.

Greens

Broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, green capsicum, kiwi fruit, bok choy and spinach.

Dark green leafy vegetables and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) are highly nutritious and have properties that skin love.  They contain folate, for rapidly dividing and rejuvenating skin cells, and vitamin C.

Blues/Purples

Blueberries, blackberries, beetroot, plums, red grapes, eggplant, and purple cabbage.

Berries and plums contain some of the highest concentrations of antioxidants in the plant kingdom. These berries make eating fruits for your skin a joy.

Vitamins and minerals from a healthy diet including fresh fruit and vegetables are essential for proper function of every organ in the body - and our skin is no exception!
