Frequently asked questions
Recent improvements to our service
We have recently acquired our own small warehouse in Queanbeyan - a big move for us! (we were previously operating out of some space in our suppliers warehouse.
What does this change mean for you?
- we have more control over the produce we can supply - ie the quality and size of the produce. All our produce is now a better size for household use.
- we are ordering direct from our suppliers at Sydney markets, rather than using a 'middleman' and have already passed the savings on to you. Our produce is cheaper while quality is often even better.
How much is your delivery fee?
For orders under $80 our delivery fee is $8.50. For orders over $80 (produce only) we offer free delivery. Click here for more information about how our delivery fee works.
What are the benefits to my family of having my fruit and vegies delivered?
Everyone has different needs but most of us these days are very busy working, raising families, cooking, shopping etc and
generally trading our precious time in order to get everything done.
Vegies To Your Door is just the opposite of that. It is for you. It allows you to save a big
chunk of your precious time and to do something positive for your health at the same time. There are lots and lots of reasons why we believe you should use Vegies To Your Door and just some of them are listed below:
- it's healthy! Your family will always have access to the healthiest and freshest fruit and vegetables Canberra has to offer;
- no more waiting for the weekend to get your market fresh fruit and vegetables;
- it will save you a lot of time shopping for and selecting fruit and vegetables;
- no more buying fruit and vegetables that have been continuously handled by the public;
- no more battling crowds of shoppers and long checkout lines with heavy boxes of produce;
- our fruit and vegetables last longer and are therefore better value for money
- it's so simple and quick to order - and you don't even have to be home when we deliver;
- no more carrying heavy boxes and bags to your car.
- no more dragging the kids out on weekends to go to the markets;
- no more putting up with inferior (less healthy, less tasty) produce you get at the supermarket.
- no more braving the cold Canberra winter or the hot Canberra summer to get to the markets - now, they come to you!
How do I place an order?
See our simple instructions on the home page to get you started. If you have any problems at all please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to step you through the process.
How do I know your pricing is competitive?
Our prices may vary day to day depending on market price. You may find cheaper products at some traditional retail outlets and supermarkets but by choosing Vegies To Your Door, you will always receive better quality, fresher produce that lasts longer and is healthier for you. We are not bound to set weekly prices like supermarkets and are therefore able to pass on savings to our customers immediately. You will usually find our prices are the same, if not lower, than supermarket prices over your total order. We are very keen to be competitive on price without compromising on quality.
Why is pricing on some products per unit rather than by weight?
We understand that usually fruit and vegetables are priced by weight and that way of pricing is familiar. However, if you are like me, I know I don't bother to weigh my fruit and vegetables when I am shopping at the markets. I buy my produce based on how much or how many of an item I need. This is why we decided for online ordering it would be much easier for you to order by unit rather than by weight. For example, if you know you need 5 bananas for the week because your little boy needs one in his lunch box every single day, you can order 5 bananas or, if you are working out your weekly dinner menu and a recipe calls for 3 tomatoes, you can order 3 tomatoes. On the other hand, if you had to order by weight while shopping online you would not know exactly how many bananas or how many tomatoes you would get for 500 grams or for a kilo. Buying online is a little bit different than being at the shop yourself and therefore, to make it easier for you, we believe this difference in the way items are priced is necessary. However as always, please send your feedback to feedback@vegiestoyourdoor.com.au. Please read the next couple of questions as they also relate to this topic.
How do you work out how much a single piece of fruit or vegetable is?
Before launching our online business, we spent a considerable amount of time
working out how many 'average sized' apples, pears, bananas, tomatoes etc are
in a kilo. When we receive an updated price list from our supplier we divide
the price per kilo by how many of each item makes up a kilo, giving us the
price per unit for each item. Not only are our prices competitive but you also get the added bonus of having your market fresh fruit and vegetables arrive at your door!
What if the produce is larger or smaller than 'average sized'?
If the produce is large - you get a bargain! If the produce is smaller than average for any reason, we will include extras to make up the weight difference.
How do I order a kilo of something when it is only listed in 500 gram lots?
In the quantity column type 2 rather than 1 - we will double the amount to 1kg. If you want 1.5kgs type 3 in the quantity amount and so on.
Do you supply organic fruit and vegetables?
We do occasionally have limited lines of organic fruit and vegetables but do not stock the whole range.
What if something I have ordered is not available on the day?
If it is obvious we will substitute (eg green grapes for red). If a substitution is not so obvious we will refund you - usually in cash with your order.
Do I have to be home to accept delivery?
No. This is one of my favourite features of this service. As long as you pay online via our secure credit card facility then there is absolutely no reason why you need to be home to accept delivery.
Will my produce stay fresh until I arrive home?
Yes. Our produce is very fresh and will stay that way for a number of hours prior to refrigeration as long as you specify a cool place to leave your order. We also strongly recommend that you hire one of our cool boxes for just 0.50c. This is an environmentally friendly polyfoam box with a lid, designed to keep your produce cool and protected from any animals or bugs that might be hungry. We ask that you leave this box out for collection when placing your next order.
Why do I need to pay 0.50c to hire the cool box if I have to return them to you?
These environmentally friendly polyfoam boxes are very expensive and the small fee of 0.50c allows us to continue offering them to you as a way of keeping your produce cool, fresh and protected from animals and bugs, until you arrive home.
Please note if we deliver to you and your previous box has not been left out for collection we will leave a note with your order reminding you to leave both boxes out with your next delivery. If we deliver again and the boxes still have not been left out, your order will be left in a normal cardboard box and you may be invoiced for the cost of the polyfoam boxes. If your box inadvertently becomes damaged, please leave these out for collection anyway, as we can recycle them. We are of course happy to receive any feedback or ideas in relation to this service and you can email us at feedback@vegiestoyourdoor.com.au
Are my credit card details safe?
Vegies To Your Door uses an approved payment gateway service provided by e-Way and Westpac bank. All credit card details go directly to the bank's website. We do not see or store your credit card information as this is done directly between your bank and ours. Your credit card information is sent through SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), and uses encrypted security before reaching a secure server at the bank. We use industry standard 128 bit encrytion.
Can you deliver my order on the weekend?
It is not possible for us to do this as the wholesale markets are not open on the weekend. Which is a good thing for us because we also very much value our family time on the weekend. Remember, you do not have to be home to accept delivery so if you work away from the house all week, that's not a problem.
Can I have a different delivery address to my home address?
Yes you can. When checking out, you will see a page titled CHECKOUT - DELIVERY DETAILS and this is where you can put a different address for delivery if required. This option is excellent if ordering for someone who does not have access to the Internet - perhaps your parents or grandparents may benefit from this option.
Can I specify my delivery date?
Yes you can, similar to above. When checking out, you will see a page titled CHECKOUT - DELIVERY DETAILS. On this page you will see an option to specify Delivery Date, you can change this date to the day you want your order delivered.
If I choose to pay cash on delivery rather than Credit Card, do I need to be home when you arrive?
If you are not home then someone else needs to be home to pay for your purchase. If no one is home your produce will be returned to our depot. You can also arrange with us to leave the cash or cheque in a safe place for us to collect (if you are comfortable with this option).
